From Midnight Trips to Budget Travel Guides

Hey there, I’m Sharon, a Kenyan travel writer and the voice behind Budget Travel Kenya.

My first memorable trip was to Lake Victoria as part of a school trip. We left home at midnight to get there by morning, and I spent the entire journey looking out the window, watching as dawn broke over seemingly endless stretches of grassland. That was the moment my love for travel began.

Growing up, I was also an obsessive reader, devouring novels set in places I had never been, countries I could only visit by closing my eyes. The greatest happiness of my adult life is that I now get to visit those places in person. And I have discovered that doing it on a budget, with careful planning and real numbers, makes the experience even more meaningful.

That is what this blog is about. I travel across Kenya, track every shilling I spend, and share the real costs so you can plan your own trips without the guesswork. No estimates, no averages, just honest numbers from someone who lives here.
