I grew up in rural Kenya in the Rift Valley and could not afford to travel. With no electricity, books became my window to the world. Our mission library had all kinds of novels, and my mother, an English literature teacher, introduced me to stories that carried me far beyond my surroundings. From the busy streets of Eldoret to a small clinic in Machakos, books took me to places my feet had never touched. Now, I am exploring those same places in real life, as affordably as possible.
